Coolant Change

Your car’s engine needs coolant (a mixture of antifreeze and water which stops the engine from freezing or overheating) to keep it at the right temperature all year round, whether that be in the depths of winter or on that occasional hot, sunny day in summer. It’s an essential part of vehicle maintenance to keep an eye on the cooling system, which is why at Autocentre we recommend a coolant change roughly every two years to prolong the life of your car, and this is a service that we are pleased to offer at our workshop in Chorley.

Why does the engine coolant need changing?

Chemicals in coolant (also known as antifreeze) keep rust from accumulating within the cooling system. But as the fluid ages, it loses its ability to prevent rust, which means that components like the water pump, radiator, and heater core will start to rust. Rust not only damages the engine mechanically but also reduces cooling system efficiency since the particles might clog some of the system’s smaller coolant passageways, increasing the risk of an overheated car.
