What is a Haldex system?

The Haldex 4-wheel-drive system is a type of all-wheel-drive (AWD) system used in vehicles to distribute power to all four wheels as and when required. It is designed to improve traction and stability in different driving conditions, such as slippery roads or off-road terrain. This system improves the handling of the vehicle in challenging driving conditions. At Autocentre, we are pleased to offer Haldex servicing at our workshop in Chorley.

Why does my Haldex system need servicing?

Regular servicing of the Haldex system is essential to ensure that the system remains correctly lubricated – the clutch coupling operates as a wet clutch system and the oil surrounding it needs to remain uncontaminated to avoid overheating and to protect this crucial component from damage. It used to be the case that vehicle manufacturers would fit a filter which gathered unwanted friction residue that builds up over time within the clutch coupling but they now fit an oil strainer and these tend to get blocked up potentially causing contamination of the oil.
